General Information

South Africa is a “shark hotspot” with over 100 species of shark present in our waters. Join Dive the Big 5 on the shark expedition of a lifetime to dive, interact, film and photograph White Sharks, Blue Sharks, Mako Sharks, Sevengill Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Puffadder Catsharks, Dark Shy Sharks, Pajama Sharks, Leopard Cat Sharks, Cape Fur Seals, and much more. This 10 Night/9 Day expedition package also includes a full day tour to view the BIG 5 on land, making this a truly African experience! Also included are three half day sightseeing tours to discover the beauty of the Western Cape. On these tours we plan to show you the “Cape of Good Hope” which is the most South Western tip of the African continent, finish this tour off with the famous “Boulders Beach” which is home to the African penguins. Other sightseeing attractions on this expedition are Table Mountain , Robben Island or a trip to some of the best wine farms in the world.

The Shark action will consist of two trips to Seal Island (False Bay) to meet the Great White Shark face to face and learn about their behaviour and movements around our coastline. Three inshore dive trips (two dives per trip) amongst the kelp forests in search of Broadnose Sevengill Sharks, Spotted Gully Sharks, Puffadder Catsharks, Dark Shy Sharks, Leopard Cat Sharks, Pajama Sharks and Cape Fur Seals. Two offshore trips in search of Blue Sharks, Mako Sharks, Giant Yellowfin Tuna and Longfin Tuna and Pilot whales.

The three half day land based tours are flexible to the desire of the group and the advice from the tour guide. The options are Cape Point Nature Reserve, the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach, Table Mountain, Robben Island, Winelands and many more.

Preliminary Itinerary

Day 01

  • Airport pickup between 12h00-14h00 (unless otherwise arranged) and transferred to the Dive the Big 5 dive shop before dropped at the Quayside hotel.

Day 02

  • 7am breakfast at hotel.
  • 8h30am meet for inshore dive trip (2 dives)
  • 12h30 return to hotel for shower and lunch
  • 13h30 guided land tour to Cape point
  • 17h30 visit Boulders beach and meet the Penguins
  • 18h30 Dropped at hotel
  • Dinner at a local restaurant

Day 03

  • 7am breakfast to go, meet on pier
  • 7h30 head off to Seal island to meet the white sharks
  • 12h30 return to port
  • Afternoon at own leisure

Day 04

  • 7am breakfast to go, meet on pier
  • 7h30 head offshore for Blue and Mako shark dive
  • 16h00 return to pier/hotel
  • Remainder of day at own leisure

Day 05

  • 7am breakfast at hotel.
  • 8h30 meet for inshore dive trip (2 dives) 
  • 12h30 return to hotel for shower and lunch 
  • 13h30 guided tour to Table Mountain 
  • 7pm dinner at V&A Waterfront

Day 06

  • 7am breakfast to go, meet on pier
  • 7h30 head to Seal island to see more White sharks
  • 12h30 return to port
  • afternoon at own leisure

Day 07

  • 7am breakfast to go, meet on pier
  • 7h30 head offshore to dive with Blue and Mako sharks
  • 16h00 return to port
  • Evening at own leisure

Day 08

  • 6am meet guide/driver and head to Game reserve
  • 8h30 arrive and have breakfast
  • 9h30-12h30 Game drive
  • 13h00 buffet lunch at Game reserve
  • 14h30 return to Hotel
  • 17h00 arrive and rest of day at own leisure

Day 09

  • 7am breakfast at hotel
  • 8h30 meet on pier for inshore trip (2 dives)
  • 12h30 return to hotel
  • 13h30 lunch with the Dive the Big 5 team
  • Remainder of day at own leisure 

Day 10

  • 7am breakfast at hotel
  • 9am pickup for robben island/wineland tour
  • 14h30 return to hotel and relax
  • 17h00 meet at yacht club for shark presentation and farewell Braai

Day 11

  • Airport drop off between 12h00-14h00 (unless otherwise arranged)
