This used to be the “ultimate” shark dive itinerary until the sharks almost disappeared off Protea Banks due to “sport” and commercial fishing. Protea falls outside the Marine Reserve with the result that sharks are being targeted by fisherman for the sport and for meat which is exported to Australia. With the result that Dive The Big 5 will include dives on Protea, but it does not come with our blessing. For those divers who want to take the chance and dive Protea in the hope of encountering Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Tiger Sharks and Dusky Sharks, then this is the itinerary for you.
Day 1.
Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will be met by a representative of Dive The Big 5 for the two hour road transfer to Gansbaai. Rest of the day free. Overnight at Saxon Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis - www.saxonlodge.com

Day 2
After an early breakfast you will be collected at Saxon Lodge for the short transfer to Kleinbaai Harbour where, after the pre-dive briefing and the signing of indemnity forms, you will board the dive boat for 5 hours at sea with the Great Whites, weather permitting, either cage diving or surface viewing. After the dive you will transfer back to Saxon Lodge. Rest of the day free. Overnight at Saxon Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis.
Included: Breakfast, return transfer to Kleinbaai Harbour, 5 hours at sea with the Great Whites, full equipment hire, services of a local dive master, light snacks and refreshments on board, accommodation.
Excluded: Lunch, dinner, bar, items of a personal nature, gratuities.
Day 3
Another 5 hours at sea with the Great Whites, cage diving or surface viewing, weather permitting. After the dive you will return to Saxon Lodge for a shower before being transferred back to Cape Town International Airport in time to connect with your domestic flight to Durban, own arrangements.
On arrival at Durban International Airport, you will be met by a representative of Dive The Big 5 for the 45 minute road transfer to Rocky Bay. Rest of the day free. Overnight at Ellingham Resort on a bed and breakfast basis - www.ellinghamresort.com
Included: Breakfast, return transfer to Kleinbaai Harbour, 5 hours at sea with the Great Whites, full equipment hire, services of a local dive master, light snacks and refreshments on board, road transfer to Cape Town International Airport, road transfer from Durban International Airport to Rocky Bay, accommodation.

Day 4
After an early morning continental breakfast, which will be delivered to your log cabin, you will walk the short distance to “Shark Park”, which is situated on Ellingham Resorts’ premises. After the pre-dive briefing and signing of indemnity forms, you will board the rubber duck for a 2 tank dive on Aliwal Shoal, weather permitting. “Raggie” season is from July through October. If your tour falls outside this period you will do either reef or wreck dives on the Shoal itself. The rest of the day is free after the dive. Overnight at Ellingham Resort on a bed and breakfast basis.
Included: Breakfast, 2 dives on Aliwal Shoal, tanks, weights and air, services of a local dive master, light refreshments on board, accommodation.
Excluded: Equipment hire other than tanks, weights and air-fills, lunch, dinner, bar, items of a personal nature, gratuities.
Day 5
Another early morning wake up call and breakfast in your log cabin before meeting at “Shark Park“ for the pre-dive briefing in preparation for 5 hours at sea “free” diving (on scuba but no cage) with the Tiger’s of Africa, the Tiger Sharks, weather permitting. The rest of the day is free after the dive. Overnight at Ellingham Resort on a bed and breakfast basis.
Included: Breakfast, 5 hours at sea with the Tiger Sharks, tanks, weights and air, services of a local dive master, light refreshments on board, accommodation.
Excluded: Hire of dive equipment other than tanks, weights and air-fills, lunch, dinner, bar, items of a personal nature, gratuities.
Day 6
Your last “date” with the Tigers of Africa, weather permitting. After the Dive you will be collected from Ellingham Resort by a representative of Dive The Big 5 for the 1 hour road transfer to Shelly Beach. Rest of the day free. Overnight at Shelly Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis - www.shellylodge.com
Included: Breakfast, 5 hours at sea with the Tiger Sharks, tanks, weights and air-fills, services of a local dive master, light refreshments on board, road transfer to Shelly Beach, accommodation.

Day 7
Following an early morning breakfast, you will be collected from Shelly Lodge for the short road transfer to Shelly Beach, te launch site to Protea Banks. After signing the necessary indemnity forms you will embark on the first two of your four scheduled dives on Protea Banks, weather permitting. The rest of the afternoon is free and can be spent exploring the small sea-side town of Shelly Beach, which is easily done on foot. Over the road from Shelly Lodge is a shopping mall and a number of restaurants. Overnight at Shelly Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis.
Included: Breakfast, return road transfer from Shelly Lodge to Shelly Beach, two scheduled dives on Protea Banks, tanks, weights and air, services of a local dive master, light refreshments on board, accommodation.
Excluded: Hire of dive equipment other than tanks, weights and air-fills, lunch, dinner, bar, items of a personal nature, gratuities.
Day 8
The last two of your four scheduled dives on Protea Banks, weather permitting. After the dive, you will transfer back to Shelly Lodge where, after a shower, you will be collected from Shelly Lodge by a representative of Dive The Big 5 for the one and a half hour road transfer back to Durban. Spend the night savouring the delights of this sea-side city. Overnight at Durban City Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis.
Included: Breakfast, return road transfer from Shelly Lodge to Shelly Beach, two scheduled dives on Protea Banks, tanks, weights and air, services of a local dive master, light refreshments on board, road transfer to Durban, accommodation.

Day 9
After breakfast you will be collected from Durban City Lodge by a representative of Dive The Big 5 for the short road transfer to Durban International Airport in time to connect with your onward flight. End of Services.
